Archuleta Fans

Here's a funny video I found of some girls' reaction to David Archuleta NOT winning American Idol.

I think my reaction was pretty similar.

As would have been the reaction in West Hollywood if McCain had beat out Obama.

San Diego Mayor dude on Prop 8

My pal Roger Ebert pointed me to this video after reviewing Milk (which he says is great) and it is also kind of cute.

Slumdog Millionaire

I haven't seen it yet, but everyone has been telling me it is amazing and it got a 92% from Rotten Tomatoes.

Just watching the trailer gives me chills.

Broken Ankle Blog

My dad pointed me to the blog of this girl who broke her ankle a few years ago and apparently lots of people check it and it seems to provide a decent timeline of what to expect with the healing and stuff.

http://ouchmyleg.wordpress.com/

Yay for the internets bringing people together.

So they seem to say swelling will continue for weeks, maybe months.

Limping around in a weight-bearing cast might begin in 4-6 weeks.

That's what I'm aiming for. I'd love to be able to at least limp around and have some kind of mobility again.

Still trying to figure out when I can get my ass back to California. The cold weather is not as fun when you lack the ability to ski. Or make snowballs. Or wear pants.

Most low-key birthday ever

Still stuck in bed. I'll be here all day. Bleh.

Say hi. I'm bored.

Although...I did start playing WoW again.

Getting Tyffany back on his feet has been a little tricky since I stupidly stripped him down and sold off all his gear and gave my gold away when I quit the game over a year ago.

I spent some time in the town square begging for money.

Thankfully I have powerful rich friends and Chris, Doug, and MichaelTan all sent me some gold to buy some new equipment.

YAY!!!!!

Sidenote: I was doing a quest with some other dude just now and he had to step away from his keyboard because his mom was yelling at him to do chores. I have officially turned 12-years-old today.

Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving we went over to MichaelTan's house, who I've known since the first day of 1st grade.

His cousins and uncles and aunts had come in from all over. There were like 20 people there. It was fun. And delicious.

Crazy to think I've had a friend in my life for over 20 years.

And yet...in 20 years...not that much has changed.

All their living room furniture is still the same...

The Sega Genesis is still hooked up...

Mr. Tan took a nap on the couch immediately following dinner...

We played some poker...

...and Michael ate into the wee hours.

Ann Coulter's jaw wired shut.

Fa la la la la... la la la la!!!!

Ann "I'll Say My Own Mother is a Queer Terrorist to Sell Books" Coulter's jaw is reportedly wired shut after she broke it it in an undisclosed incident, according to Page Six.

Wow.

Can you excuse me? I suddenly feel the need to laugh hysterically for the next 20 years of my life. No, really, this could take a while.

NJ to RI, worst car ride ever.

Dan picked me up in NJ on his way back to Providence from Philly. (He was down there interviewing with hospitals for his residency this upcoming year.)

I folded myself into the backseat of his Prius, struggling to find a comfortable position for my leg every 5 minutes or so.

It was awful.

Thankfully we made a meatball/pizza pit stop in Connecticut.

More fun leg adjustments.

It is at rare times like this that I wish I weren't so damn enormous.

Worst case scenario...

Infection? Amputation? AIIEEEEE!!!!!

As I was changing the dressing on my stitches today, I noticed two new dark discolorations which were really dark and kinda greenish.

My immediate thought? Gangrene.

My next thought? Amputation.

Eeek.

I freaked out a little bit.

Immediately I took some pics and shot them off to Dr. Jasper and Dr. Dan and Dr. Farshid.

All assured me that it looks like normal bruising. Even though those bruises weren't there a few days ago...they say that because the docs were poking around inside my foot so much and twisting and screwing and pokey poke poking, bruises could occur as swelling goes down, even if it isn't anywhere near the site of my stitches.

Hmmm...

If anyone else with medical experience, ankle surgery experience, or general bruise experience has some input, please leave a comment.

Thanks.

Dr. Dan is picking me up soon and I'm on my way to RI. Wheee.

Itchy Stitches

My leg is so itchy today.

And I'm trying to hard not to scratch through my boot.

It is SO ITCHY.

I am going crazy.

I hear tapping is better than scratching. I've been tapping on them through my boot for the past 6 hours. SINCE 4AM.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kill me.

Sisterhood of the T.P. 2

Smershy is a Jersey Girl and lives in one of the semi-neighboring towns (Chatham) to where I'm being kept (Paramus).

She brought a movie over last night: Sisterhood of the T.P. 2

Blake Lively.

I love you.

No matter how much Gossip Girl sucks currently* I will always love you.

But Sisterhood of the T.P. 2 was absolute rubbish.

*Thanksgiving episode may be a turning point...

"Who is NIKKI?????"

Oh my god...

This is amazing.

Sasians on a radio show.

Leona Lewis - Better In Time

Maybe I'm just in a nostalgic reflective mood, but I really like Leona Lewis's song "Better In Time" right now.

I'm sorry I called you a poor man's dog-faced Alicia Keys, Leona. You are growing on me.

Nice packages do not always contain nice things.

WARNING: If you are easily grossed out and/or wish to keep the breakfast/lunch/snackysnack you just ate comfortably in your stomach DO NOT scroll down and DEFINITELY DO NOT click on the pictures in BLUE as they contain EPIC AMOUNTS OF GROSSNESS.

.....................

......................

You have been warned.

......................

.......................

So my foot has been given a pretty little ski boot.

Looks comfy right? Totally harmless. You wouldn't hesitate to touch it.

I must be in heaven wearing this miraculous healing wondershoe that solves all the world's problems, right?

Wrong.

I think back on all the nice soft little walking casts and signed clean white casts of people I've seen over my lifetime. It's such a pretty little package. You have no qualms about tapping it or sniffing it or signing your name and inane little message all over it.

But remember in Se7en, when Brad Pitt got that pretty little package out in the desert and he opened it up and inside it was GWYNETH PALTROW'S DECAPITATED HEAD???

Well that is like what these casts are. We see someone wearing a cast and while we might go "oh. poor guy..." we don't necessarily ever think about the epic amounts of ghastliness that may be lurking just beneath the shiny ski-boot surface. I don't think I ever have anyway.

................

So...my foot is pretty messed up.

You can see this just by peeking at my heel.

I took my bandages off to change my wound dressings as well as to take pictures to send to Dr. Dan and Dr. Jasper so I could have their opinions on whether or not the wounds looked infected.

And here they are:

(Click the pics for the real versions. I promise you they're totally nasty.)

The docs seem to think that everything looks about right considering the circumstances.

Yay...I guess...

The Saturday night that should have been...

So we had originally planned to have my birthday party tonight in West Hollywood.

I'm sure it would have been a booze-fueled wastedface sh*tshow like all the years past.

Didn't exactly turn out as I had expected. :-/

............

I've always lived in the moment. As I've probably mentioned before, I almost died several years ago in a freak cab-running-onto-the-sidewalk-and-into-pedestrians incident. Since then I've always tried to make the best of every situation to seize all opportunities and to have fun with whoever I'm with in whatever I'm doing.

I can't stress enough how important it is to not dwell in your current situation.

I'm trying my best not to, though it's hard when you're confined to a bed and it takes an insane amount of effort just to sit upright let alone stand up so you can scoot your way over to the bathroom in a computer chair after getting instant diarrhea from drinking a glass of milk (oh yes that happened today oops).

..................

So...I know a lot of you are frustrated right now. Frustrated with your work. Frustrated with your job (or lack of one). Frustrated with stupid STUPID boys who aren't exactly who you want them to be...

It's ok.

We all have something in our life that could be better at any given moment. But be happy with what you have now and what you're able to do now and what you've been fortunate enough to be able to have done already.

Because the things you take for granted today could easily be snatched away from you without a moment's notice.

Live in the moment and be grateful for what you have.

I write this to you. But I write this also to remind myself.

One thing I'm super grateful for right now is for having taken the time to blog about my adventures. It's at times like this when I'm kind of down that I can go back and relive the awesome things I've done and awesome people I've known and remember that my life is ridiculously sweet and sometimes you need a low to appreciate the highs.

...............

So tonight's pretty much a bust for me. Don't worry though. I'll be throwing a party when I finally make it back to LA to make up for what should have been tonight's sh*tshow.

I thought of a good theme: Handicapped Awareness.

Also, we'll be taking my wheelchair to Disneyland and skipping all the lines.

If you're able to, get out there and have a great Saturday night, whatever you're doing.

I know all the NY kids are out celebrating Todd's b'day.

Happy Birthday T.O.!

Don't go chest-bumping anyone.

fun fun saturday

i am in bed all day today and it is so cold. foot is really swollen today.

i can't wait until dr dan gets here tuesday to look at it.

i peeked. it's gross. all bruised and blue.

i haven't even peeled away the bandages to look at the stitches yet.

i think i might faint if i do.

more sleeping. but first. peeing in a bottle. wheeee.

If you are a person and if you have feet and those feet work please stand up and do a little dance right now and let out a childish giggle and cherish all the magical little moves you are able to make.

Never again take those moves for granted.

It's Saturday. You should be frollicking. Find a field. Go frollick!

(no idea who the dumbass in the picture is. stole it from the internet.)

Goodbye New York City

So I've got my crutches. Got my supposed "mobility".

The crutches are tall.

But really I still can't stand for more than 10 seconds straight right now without getting overwhelmed by the pain, getting dizzy, and then falling down. So crutches aren't really an option. I tried to tell my stupid STUPID physical therapist lady this, but she wouldn't listen.

See, my foot is still very un-used to being broken, rebroken, broken again, and then cut apart and screwed and plated back together, and as such has a tendency to swell instantly depending on the position it is in.

When I stand, all my blood immediately rushes into my foot, which then expands and literally feels like it's going to explode out of my cast. But because the cast is hard and will not allow this to happen (although I do occassionally think I feel the juice from the swelling leaking out between my sutures) all it is is extremely painful and dizzying and not at all pleasant.

And so, I avoid any movement and am willing to deal with the complete humiliation of being pushed around the city in my stolen hotel luggage carrier/makeshift wheelchair by my exceptionally pretty friends.

Kurtis, who I've known for a million years and basically grew up with, drove into the city from Jersey to pick me up.

I'll be spending the next few days recovering in the Dirty Jerz with good family friends, yummy food...

...and the biggest friggin' TV I have ever seen in my life. (65"!!!)

Thank you everyone who has helped me throughout this ordeal. Whether it be through daily meal deliveries, or just a simple text or email to check in, you've all been totally awesome.

Thank you Mom, Dad, and Sandra, it is very comforting knowing that you're all always there for me also.

Poop! Yay!

Q: What happens when you are terrified of pooping in a pan while in the hospital and so you eat basically nothing for 6 days and refuse to ever go to the bathroom but then finally you have a big meal to celebrate being out of the hospital and actually need to go to the bathroom and haven't taken a delicious stool softener that normally the nurses are around to give you?

A: You sit on the toilet for half an hour trying to get 2 little rock-hard turds out of your butt!

Yay constipation!

Last Day in the Hospital

My last day in the hospital.

Whew. It has been quite a week.

Just as I was about packed up and ready to go, Annie and Tatyana surprised me with a last minute visit.

They came bringing the sweetest gift ever. Bobby the Bergdorf Bear.

He is the softest little bear in the whole wide world.

Minutes later, TL came to aid in my escape. TL you are a champion. Chasing down cabs. Carrying all my bags. Wheeling me in wheelchair. And finally stealing a luggage trolley to transport me those last few steps up to AC and Shiri's front door. (I can't stand yet without getting extremely dizzy and almost falling over.)

Thank you thank ynou thank you TL.

Good bless you Jon Stewart.

Chapter 1 is now over. Here goes Chapter 2.

You are all too nice.

Connie brought lunch again yesterday. I haven't had to eat nasty hospital food at all this week thanks to you.

Bethany, who is sister to Felix's high school co-president Lindsay, brought Jelly Beans and Coffee Beans. Yum.

Chandler, who I haven't seen in ages, brought rice krispies.

And then Smershy showed up, giving the best mini-massage of me life.

Sushi Party!

And then I vomited and passed out.
