TAJ MAHAL!

Sunday | April 6, 2008 | 1 p.m.

Content and full of curry, we finally headed to the Taj Mahal, the impetus for our entire trip.

To get to the Taj, you get dropped off at the front gate, and then you have to hike a mile or so through this park.

Then you come to a security gate where they frisk you real good.

Cupped breasts and firmly squeezed buttocks. Seriously. The works.

Then you walk and come to another courtyard.

It's a pretty grand entrance.

And once you go through the little hole, you enter the magical world of the Taj Mahal.

It is so incredible.

More beautiful than pictures can ever convey.

You see it, finally, after your intense and exhausting trek, and it just sends chills down your spine.

Of course we had to take tacky-ass pictures with it.

It. Is huge.

It is sooooo well preserved because it's out in the middle of nowhere with zero pollution.

AND they make you take off your shoes.

The parts of the complex that aren't marble are so very hot.

We scurried across the courtyard to find shade.

In case you're not familiar with its history, the Taj Mahal was built in like the mid-1600s by some Shah dude.

His favorite wife died and on her deathbed she asked him to build the grandest monument ever to show the world their love.

And so up went the Taj.

The world's greatest monument to undying love.

It took something like 22 years to build. (Keep in mind they didn't have cranes and boats and trains back then. Just strong little Helper Sasians and their trusty elephants, pushing giant slabs of marble thousands of miles across the Asian subcontinent.)

...................

The thing noone ever realizes is that the Taj sits overlooking a river where happy little Sasians and their animals and naked babies frollick and drink diarrhea water.

And the well-manicured lawns are still mowed by oxen.

Neato.

So after killing a couple hours walking around the Taj. It finally came time for us to go explore the actual mausoleum itself.

Before going inside though, we found a little corner and sat down to chill out. (We were planning to spend the whole day there to watch the sun set. )

Our rest didn't last long though. Within minutes the Sasians came a-calling wanting to take pictures with us. Mostly just Matt though because he is so damn sexy.

I'm scared to think what would happen if KG showed up...

Lots of Sasians all dressed in their nicest Taj Mahal clothes.

No homeless beggars. That was nice.

The fake gays were still around though...

When you get up close to the building. You realize that there is so much intricate detailing.

And it's ALL MARBLE.

Easy to see why so many people make the trek.

So we spent a total of like 6 hours there. Just walking around. Taking way too many pictures.

At one point I turned on my phone to get a text from KG and was majorly bummed.

"Teeeeeebags. Everyone is celebrating KG's birthday at PIAAAAANOS. Dammit!"

Tee was like, "Dude. You're at the Taj Mahal...I think you win."

...................

Thought about that for a second.

And yeah, while I was sad to have missed out on KG's birthday shenanigans, Tee was right.

We win.

The sunset was cool.

We took the last train back to Delhi.

It was crowded and insane. And we almost died in the death-rickshaw on the way back to our hotel.

Two days in India is all you need.

Thank god we're heading home tomorrow.

Peace out!
