Fire Island

So the trip to Fire Island was a long and treacherous one.

We sat in Brooklyn traffic for a good couple of hours...

And then we arrived at ferry pier only to see the last Kismet ferry pulling away from the dock...

So...we quickly iPhone'd some information and found out we could catch another ferry to another part of Fire Island and then walk a few miles to our house...ugh...

Luckily, once we got to Fire Island, we were able to catch a late-night water taxi to our final destination.

We finally arrived at our house, "Lovers and Other Strangers"...

Marveled at its epic-ness...

Hooked up the iPod...and commenced festivities...

As I said before, my camera broke midway through the first night. So I only have pictures from the first few hours of funnery.

It was an incredible weekend though.

At one point, we played an epic game of Kings.

And after the trip, having played some of the most hilarious rounds of categories EVER, we came up with this list of Things We Love About Fire Island:

1. The Paper Plate Dance
2. Nude beaches
3. Petey Pablo getting locked out sleeping in the storage shed.
4. Actually, everything Petey Pablo did.
5. Secretly making out with bartenders
6. Buffalo chicken wraps
7. Taku's submission of "Hole" as a term of endearment for one's significant other during Categories...
8. Senior citizen dance party
9. KG squealing and running out of the water like a little girl after being attacked by a fluther of man-eating jellyfish.
10. Anything made in a blender
11. Cathleen's patriotic/Hell's Angels beachwear
12. Bike rentals
13. Creating paper plate trails a la Hansel and Gretel all over the island...
14. KG not taking his pants off
15. Spiral sausage.
16. Tak's late-night spread eagle assault on Carly's face.
17. Tak's sudden emergence from being passed out by yelling, "My dick"
18. Certain people actually taking their pants off.

Such a good time.

Fire Island. I will be back.

F.I. Aftermath

So my camera ran out of battery and then broke.

I can't get any party pictures off it until I get back to LA or receive them from others.

So...I guess we'll start with pictures of the aftermath, taken at crappy quality with my pathetic little cell phone camera.

................

On Fire Island, we stayed in a quiet little community called Kismet.

Kismet only has one tiny grocery store, one small restaurant - The Out, and another, bigger restaurant - The Inn, which also serves as the local bar and Saturday night gathering place for the entire community.

There are only walking paths and bikes on F.I., which you have to make a 3 hour trek via car/train/boat to get to.

Once you're there, though, it's so peaceful and relaxing that you forget that the rest of the world even exists.

Peaceful, I mean, until it gets invaded by The Hoochies...

..........................

The eight-bedroom house we rented was called Lovers & Other Strangers. Over the weekend, we learned from many locals that the house was pretty notorious and had a reputation for being a crazy/sexy party house dating back to the days of Studio 54.

We awoke on our final morning (Sunday) to find our house a mess of broken glass, paper plates, and wounded soldiers.

How did this all happen? You'll have to wait to find out.

Maybe.

(Still debating whether what happens on Fire Island stays on Fire Island...)

...................................

For hangover breakfast we hit up The Inn for buffalo chicken wraps.

It was hard to imagine that the quaint little restaurant/bar had been packed just a few hours prior with the most random sweaty mix of locals and visitors, all wastedface and dancing their bottoms off to a live local band playing classic hits.

After lunch we dehangoverized with one of the best beach days ever.

But before long, it was time to say goodbye...

Great place. Great time.

9/11 in the city

It's weird to be in New York on September 11.

All the flags are at half-mast everywhere.

There are police officers and firefighters everywhere.

I always get chills when I walk near Ground Zero.

I thought about that day. Standing outside Psych Lab. Bumping into Kathryn. Crowding around some car that had its radio blasting with about forty other people, not really comprehending what we were hearing. Hearing the reporter say that tower 1 was coming down and everyone gasping and looking around to make sure what they heard was really what everyone else had heard. It was so surreal. We all just hugged each other, helpless.

I'd been up to the top of those towers. The space they occupied was enormous.

Like seriously, the space between these few buildings (below) held just ONE of the towers. And that tower was like double the size of any of them.

It's insane. I think about it now, seven years later, and it still seems just as insane.

At night they've been shooting two super bright lights into the sky that you can see from miles around.

It's really quite beautiful. And sad.

I hate to quote George Bush, but it really is a day that started like any other, but ended like none ever has. Ever.

It's sad to think that a lot of people don't really think too much about 9/11. That a lot of people have already forgotten. I don't think about it much. But I really think we should.

In the past few years, I've been down around Ground Zero several times, just because it's where I happen to live and work when I'm in NYC...

If September 11 happened just a few years later, I could easily have been involved in the tragedy. It could have been anyone.

But everything happens for a reason. We would not be where we are at today if not for September 11. George Bush might not have gotten re-elected and f-ed up our country and world. And Barack Obama would probably not be the next President of the United States.

So... today I remember the victims and heroes of September 11 and send out a thought to their families and loved ones....

OBAMA '08!!!

**I just found out that Obama and McCain were at Ground Zero at 3:30 today and I didn't walk by until 4:30. Dammit dammit dammit that would have been so freakin' cool.

MAO:

celine dion is so wonderful
i've been listening to a lot of love songs

Early Tuesday Morning

6am. Danny is in line with 200-plus people at the West Hollywood Pavilions which is abruptly closing down for remodeling and getting rid of every single thing (including top shelf alcohol) for 50% off.

He asked me for a shopping list.

I wrote:

BEER
VODKA
CHICKEN FINGERS

(I think we may throw a party next week.)

Meanwhile, I'm at LAX en route to NYC quietly eating muffin tops and being reminded of Seinfeld's Muffin Stump episode and how friggin' brilliant that show was.

Some recent work

So a year or two ago I shot this little girl named Chloe. She was sweet. I barely knew what I was doing with a camera. But she and her mom loved her shots.

She and her mom came back to me last week all growed up (she's 16 now) and having really grown into her beautifully unique features. Look out for this one. She's going to make it big-time.

Also this week I shot AlexSarnoff's cousin's gorgeous Venezuelan boyfriend Juan Pablo.

As well as Brenda's new dreamy boyfriend Max.

Shooting hot people is such fun. I love my job.

Kathryn's dream

I think we should start a weird and hilarious dream blog.

I definitely have my share of them.

And then we can compile all the ridiculous dreams and sell them as a book a la Postcards From Yo Momma.

Yay?

Start sending me your weird and ridiculous dreams.

Celeb Sighting

Just saw Lauren Conrad cruising east on Santa Monica Blvd. in a silver Benz convertible while I was walking to the gym.

Robb is so jealous.

90210 cast needs hamburgulation. Stat.

The 90210 remake is absolutely awful.

The acting is terrible.

The writing is terrible.

None of the guys are particularly hot.

Shannen Doherty did not take well to the cryogenic unfreezing process.

And all the new female cast members are distractingly emaciated.

(Notice the arm-girth differential between Jennie Garth and Jessica Stroup below.)

Seriously this show is BAD.

And someone really needs to call for a fried chicken/meatball intervention.

I'd be surprised if the show or its actresses make it through an entire season.

Gossip Girl Season 2 Premiere

If you like trashy TV, you gotta watch Gossip Girl.

This show is the best show ever with a little bit of awesome on top.

The season premiere kicked much ass.

It was a white party in the Hamptons and everyone looked hot, Nate especially.

Leighton Meester stole the show though in episode one as the writing has gotten exponentially smarter this season and she's being given snappy little lines that make her the new Summer Roberts.

OMFG y'all, this show is so good.

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach. Best beach in the L.A. area.

It was Labor Day. We were going to the beach. So obviously we started it off with gravybeef sandwich obesity at Uncle Bill's.

Danny is sun-averse.

Ergo, the silly hat.

We passed Heidi's crazy grand-aunt Katherine's house.

And found a nice little spot on the beach where we sunned and read and ate grapes all day.

The sky-writer airplanes reminded us we had to get back home by 8pm though...

Gossip Girl premiere!

So gay. So good.
