Fat Bride

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you typed "fat bride" into Google Image Search?

I have. And I just did.

I'll save you the trouble...

I'm so thankful for all the BEAUTIFUL brides I have the pleasure of photographing.

I have no idea what I would do if I had to work with one of these beasts!

......................................

Oh this is another funny thing I found on the internets.

Oh how I love Engrish.

Jimmy Eat World Audition

I auditioned yesterday for the role of a giant clone cop in an army of giant clone cops in the new Jimmy Eat World msuic video.

Random!

Castings are funny because you get to see everyone who is going out for the same roles as you. For instance, Matt and Hot Danny are almost always at the same auditions because they are super hot blonde surfer california boys.

At my casting everyone was a giant.

Remember when I was a "waitress" in Robbie William's music video? Oh those were the days.

BUDAE JJIGAE!!!

As my #1 blog reader, DannyHong knows that if you want to get featured, you go on an an adventure or you have an epic meal.

Danny decided to do both.

Last night we planned date night of dinner and a movie.

For dinner, he was going to introduce me to budae jjigae.

Budae jjigae is a Korean "stew" with a spicy broth and then various types of meats mixed in. And when I say "various types" I mean "EVERY POSSIBLE TYPE".

There's:

Hot dogs
Sliced Beef
Ham
Tofu
SPAM
Rice Cake
Ramen Noodles
Cabbage
Kim chi
Mushrooms
Zucchini
Rice cake
And a few random swirly pasta noodles for good measure.

Oh, and CHEESE.

It. Is. CRAZY.

The place we went to, in the heart of Koreatown (32nd st) was called:

Mmmmmm! Look at the specials!

The place is highly silly.

Our appetizer was a giant plate of french fries and Korean Fried Chicken which was amazing...possibly better than Momofuku's.

And then came our stew.

Basically the story of budae jjigae is that after the Korean War, meat was scarce in Seoul. So people used surplus foods, literally whatever they could find on the U.S. Army bases and mixed it all together...and the rest is history.

It was actually QUITE delicious.

I mean what's not to like?

Yay and we got our picture taken for the wall.

Thanks Danny!

Oh, P.S. the movie we saw afterward was The Kids Are All Right and it was WONDERFUL (94% on Rotten Tomatoes!).

OMG

A person with the most AMAZING name just commented on one of my photos.

I need to say something back! What should I say??!??!

Oh, also, ScarJo...

Remember the celebrity auction I shot a few months ago?

Earlier today I was asked be the photographer for another upcoming auction (the day before Steph's rehearsal dinner actually) that is supposedly going to be hosted by ScarlettJohansson!

Super-WIN!

Super-DUH!

I don't know why it just dawned on me, the brilliance of this arrangement.

See, now that I'm shooting more weddings I'm in a rough spot (per se) because I either A: can't fully enjoy my friend's weddings if I'm working them, or B: can't attend AT ALL because I'm working someone else's wedding!

So when Steph emailed me just now to inquire about my availability to shoot her rehearsal dinner I was like, "A-DUHHHHH!" I should just shoot all my friend's rehearsal dinners and brunches.

(I'm already scheduled to shoot Smershy's dinner/brunch but for some reason the complete awesomeness of this arrangement hadn't dawned on me yet.)

This way, I'm committed to attending the wedding, my friends don't have to feel guilty for NOT hiring me to shoot their wedding (I honestly don't take it personally anyway and have NO desire to work my ass off on a good friend's wedding day, though weddings of acquaintance friends and family that don't share my ENTIRE group of friends I'm totally fine with.) AND I get to cover all the expenses of attending and staying over and buying gifts etc etc.

Win-win-win-win-win!

So, friends who are getting married. Book me for your rehearsal dinners!

David Archuleta - "Something 'Bout Love" MUSIC VIDEO

The song is amazing. He looks adorable. I die.

Standard Beer / PPL / MAO Wedding

Kristen had like 20 friends meeting up at the Standard Beer Garden the other night so we went there for some drinks.

Tim stopped by because he lives two blocks away from there now.

Speaking of high school friends, I met up with Patrick, who we last saw in Hong Kong over New Years, and who has been around the city for the summer.

We went to the club at the Trump Soho which is truly awful never ever go there.

Oh and the highlight of the weekend was shooting a wedding up in Greenwich that MAO hooked me up with.

This gig meant a lot to me because remember like five years ago when I had a quarterlife crisis and didn't know what I was doing with my life?

Well Anne helped inspire me to become a photographer and served as my muse and some of the first pretty pretty pictures I ever took were of her as I began to build my portfolio.

And then from that there was our whole Hong Kong Adventure where I hooked her up with the Starz Agency and thus began the brief but lucrative (and possibly ongoing) modeling career.

And now here she is hooking me up with photo gigs because I'm now, like, a real professional photographer y'all!

Anyway, the wedding was super fun. And the pictures turned out beautiful even PRE-photoshop (as you'll see below).

Thank you Anne for the wedding gig, for inspiring me endlessly, for being a great friend, and a for being a true beauty inside and out. Oh and for being a totally nutso vampire-loving goofball weirdo.

Love love love.

Phil is one of the luckiest.

I saw a bride today!

Yes yes.

I got an EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PREVIEW today of Smershio in her wedding dress.

She was in town for one of her final fittings. And she looked...incredible.

Like a fairy princess. But wealthier.

I can't show you a picture of the dress. But I can describe it for you.

It is white. And it is pretty. And it is made of fabric.

Love pattylally

Food Food Food. I like Food.

Over the summer there has been much eating. Much eating. Much traveling. Much photographing. Minimal blogging.

As you now know, I am totally backlogged. It has been so busy and bloggers new setup still pisses me off and I simply don't have the time. But I'm not giving up. I promise. So here's my attempt to try to catch up. Still many major events to cover.

------------------------

I may have mentioned, Tee was in town for the summer! (She has gone back to Thailand now. :-( ) But when she arrived we had an eatfest.

We welcomed her with lunch at Balthazar.

Then my cousin Jon (whose wedding I will be photographing in October) graduated from dentist school and there was an eatparty for that.

I don't care how rich I am, I will always love a free eatparty.

Congrats Dr. Jon!

And then, of course, we have to visit the Meatball Shop.

I went with Danny after his birthday fiesta.

He did not know how to order and almost got us banned from the restaurant.

Not really. I went back the next night with Chris. (You may remember Chris from HK2010.)

I actually see Chris and his Shannonwife all the time because they live on top of my favorite East Village bar Boiler Room.

Sometimes we'll go (like after this meatball meal) and just sit on the couch and play Words With Friends.

The bouncer thinks we're total weirdos.

Or we'll just convene there latenight since it's soooo convenient to have a bar in your basement.

I love Chris. Does he not look like he could be a brother to my Felixfriend?

He is half-Filipino just like him too!

And Shannon looks like this girl I had a crush on in 4th grade. EliseHarris. She was always so mean to me. We would probably be friends now though. She's a graphic designer. Computer dorks I like.

I miss Tee!!!!

Maybe it is time to visit Thailand again...
