NYC Celebrity Sighting

Spotted Rachel Zoe and her husband Rodger walking into the Standard Hotel while we were taking Smileyjohn's headshots.

Yay for finally having my paparazzi lens when I need it!

Goony and Smershy show off some bling.

Meghan's birthday at the Brooklyn Beer Hall on Saturday night had been planned almost a month in advance.

But last last week while I was still in LA I got a call from Meghan saying she was engaged!.

The birthday party became an engagement party.

Katie and Semmes arrived in NYC mid-week (here to cash-in Katie's amazing birthday gift of flight/hotel/dinner/Springsteen concert) and had been planning to attend Meghan's b'day turned engagement party...but on Saturday morning when I called her to ask when she was going to Meghan's, she replied, "Dennis....I'm ENGAGED!!!!!"

Katie's toddler cousin Sophie had approached her to ask her to help retrieve this little box she had spotted in the bushes.

Katie gave it a cursory glance and said, "Sophie, I'm not crawling in there on my hands and knees to get that. You get it."

Somehow this situation resolved itself and Semmes went to retrieve the box from the bushes. In doing so he went down on one knee and it was a ringbox and there was shock and disbelief and happy smiling family members all around, etc. etc....

And with that, Meghan's Birthday/Engagement Party turned into a MegaMarriageParty for childhood best friends turned soon-to-be-warring brides.

I kid. Everyone was super-smileyfaced and as soon as Katie and Semmesey arrived at the bar there was a huge huddle-y embrace complete with screaming and jumping and squealing.

I squealed myself when I found out that the Brooklyn Beer Garden sells beer by the liter.

The joy and drunkenness was infectious.

And everyone found out about AsianBabygate on the spot.

Congratulations Goony and Smershy!

I love you guys so much and am so super excited for the epicness that is to come.

What a way to kick off the new decade.

For everyone who's going to be involved in the photo-explosions in the months and year to come, please remember: spray-tanning, teeth-whitening, and regular aerobic exercise will save me a lot of work!

Smahleyjawn!!!!

I think it's only been a month or so since Smileyjohn was last here. But he's back!

He came in town to get a headshot for a project he's applying for and decided it'd be cheaper and more fun to fly out to New York and have me take it than to have a headshot taken locally in LA.

My new roommate Thom mixed drinks. He is the East Coast Danny, with access to free alcohol and superb bartending skills.

I love Smahleyjawn!

Just in from his flight, we went straight to Rockit which was overcrowded and expensive but I didn't vomit this time, hooray.

Made a quick stop at Smiler's.

And passed out.

Yay the end yay smileyjohn yay

Connie gets a job

Connie was funemployed for all of 26 minutes.

She got laid off. Started getting her yoga certification with plans to open a yoga studio. But then got hired by another company with a pay bump. Wheeee!

We celebrated with coworkers old and new.

And that watched a horrible drag show where this awful drag queen forced a mortified Connie to dance around on stage only to ridicule her after.

Worst drag show I've ever seen.

Congrats ConCon!

OMGOMGOMGOMG

Look what I found!

TashyTimEatfacefest

Tashy took me to lunch the other day for spending all of three minutes taking her headshot for her residency applications.

We went to Fresco on 52nd and Madison and went all-out family-style.

Yellowfin Tuna & Avocado Tartare cucumber, shiitake and herb salad, lemon, chili, soy, and olive oil aioli

Fresco Crab Cake baked almond coated jumbo lump crab meat served warm with a celery root, radish, fennel and watercress salad, preserved lemon rémoulade.

Special of the day was veal risotto.

And finally Penne With Chicken & Veal Bolognese a hearty veal and chicken ragu with white wine and tomato filets...

From there I jumped up the street to Tim's epic temporary crash pad.

And of course we ordered more food - sliders from Cinema Cafe.

Wagyu Kobe Beef...

And bacon-wrapped brie-covered turkey sliders.

Oh. My. Agod.

OMG Y'ALL KATIE AND SEMMES ARE ENGAGED!!!!!!

Big News from Kevin

We haven't heard much from Kevin since he up and moved away to rural China.

Things from him always seem to come out of left field (see: moving to China).

So it shouldn't have been super-shocking this morning when I opened up an email entitled "Big News".

I thought maybe he was going to be moving back stateside or something. But no. It was bigger news.

As many of you already know, I've been dating a woman here in China for a few years now - Amy (Wang Wei Jia). We've been growing together and things have continued to bloom in both our lives. About a month ago Amy and I decided to get married. The marriage is not official yet so I wanted to wait to tell everyone, however, recent exciting events prompted me to tell everyone earlier. Not only am I getting married but I'm also going to be a daddy!

Last week Amy and I discovered she was pregnant. we will be expecting a new person in our lives at the beginning on June, 2010. It's a very exciting time for us and I just wanted to let everyone know. There are many people not on this list so please forward the news on to anyone.

Best Regards,

Weird Dream - Crazy Cab

So I keep having this dream that there's a blind cab driver in the city.

And no one really does anything about him. He's just one of those quintessential New York beings like the Naked Cowboy or Donald Trump.

The great thing is you can pay him however much you want and he never really knows the difference. He kind of just trusts that you'll get it right. And really who would take advantage of a poor little blind man?

But of course since he can't see, sometimes you don't get where you were wanting to go.

And sometimes you die.
