F*cking Health Insurance

I just had the biggest scare of my life.

I was on the phone with the Physical Therapist's office since I start physical therapy tomorrow. They had called saying that my medical insurance had been terminated.

I said WHAT THE F*CK?

(Keep in mind I just got out of the hospital a few weeks ago and have medical bills piling up to like $70k so far pre-insurance...)

I called Blue Cross who said "yeah....we cancelled your insurance because your credit card expired 10/31/08 and we couldn't charge your automatic payment..."

SO JUST EFFING CALL ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU THE NEW EXPIRATION DATE ON THE NEW CARD WHICH HAS THE EXACT SAME CREDIT CARD NUMBER!!!

Doesn't everyone know how credit cards work? They expire and the credit card company sends you replacement cards several months before hand it's just a matter of changing the new expiration date!

They instead had sent a snail mail letter Nov. 10 or something so it probably arrived when I was already in New York.

So my policy got cancelled while I was in the hospital.

Great.

Spent an hour or so getting transferred from department to department.

Luckily, the girl I finally ended up talking to on the phone was really nice and thought I was funny or something and said that since it had been just under a month or so since the billing error had occurred that she could help me reinstate my policy so that there wouldn't be a lapse in coverage.

Huge sigh of relief.

Still going to be expensive.

But hopefully it won't be Used 2008 Mercedes S-class expensive...
