The world is covered in snow.

Sweet Baby Jesus, you have failed me.

Happy Almost New Year

Dear Sweet Baby Jesus,

I know that weather.com is reporting 100% chance of precipitation, but please hold off the winter storm just a little bit so I can get my gimpy ass up to Boston so that I may engage in some funnery. I very much do not want to spend the first day of 2009 sitting on the couch watching TV.

And if I do make it to Boston, please find it in your sweet baby soul not to make me slip and break my good ankle.

That would be very nice.

Final wish for 2008.

Thank you and I love you.

Delta Delta Delta

I love Delta.

Almost as much as I love Brown.

Actually not really. I couldn't love anything nearly as much as I love Brown.

But Delta is pretty awesome.

I called them today to re-book my flight back to LA, since I had to cancel my flight home last month when I broke my ankle.

The little old customer service lady I talked to was so nice. I told her my situation and she pitied my broken-ness and tallness and put a special note in my reservation for them to try not to fill the seats surrounding me. On top of that she put me on the priority list for an upgrade. On top of that she offered to have two dudes carry me from my wheelchair to my seat.

I gave her a cyber-phone-hug.

Couldn't waive the $100 rescheduling fee though. Oh well.

Morals of the story:

1. Delta is the best.
2. Always be super-nice to customer service people. They deal with so many impatient dickwads that if you are really nice and friendly there is almost no end to what they'll go out of their way to do for you. If you get a mean one, hang up and call back.

I'll be home January 8th!

(I'm going to be pretty useless so if you're willing to help drive me around to doctors and physical therapy and movies and food, please let me know. It will be great for your karma.)

Asian name sighting...

Ankle buddies!!!

Blogger only allows each category grouping to contain 20 entries, so all my previous entries regarding my ankle will be grouped under "ankle ordeal" and all ankle updates from here on out will be grouped under "ankle ordeal: part two".

..................

I went for a check up and new x-rays the other day.

The bone is still not healed, as you can see from the scary jaggedy edges, and as such, I have to continue to stay off my foot for another four weeks or so. Ugh.

Having recovered from many an ankle-sprain in my lifetime, never did I imagine that a broken ankle could be such a horrendous injury requiring such a ridiculously long recovery-time.

On top of this, I'm kind of dreading the eventual follow-up surgery I'm going to have to have in order to remove those two long screws you see joining my tibia and fibula. (Apparently once walking and more-intense movement begins, the bones begin moving and flexing and sometimes the screws can snap and, as you can probably imagine, having sharp free-floating metal pieces deep in your flesh is probably not the most comfortable thing in the world...)

Sexy feet!

(The swollen foot looks "tan" because he is filled with blood and swollen. The regular foot looks super pale because he hasn't seen the sun in over a month.)

......................

Yesterday we drove up to Boston for lunch with Kathryn and her daddy and I was also able to meet up with my new broken-ankle buddy Betsy, who found me through my blog (having also broken her ankle recently), also went to Brown ('07), and also lives in West Hollywood (but is recovering with her daddy in Boston).

The Internets brings people together!

Betsy's a few months ahead of me in the healing process, having graduated to an aircast.

We rocked our footwear proudly.

Also we saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which in my opinion was the longest, most glacially-paced movie I have seen in my life.

Most people seem to like it though. But I personally did not.

Brad Pitt spends 80% of the movie being old and maybe 10% being beautiful.

And Cate Blanchett is hardly worth pining for over an entire lifetime.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID!!!!!

It is David Archuleta's birthday today.

He is 18 years old.

Xmas 2008: Part 2 - Carnivore Fest

From delicious Chinese lunch, we went up to Concord/Carlisle to hang with Uncle Dick, Auntie Alice, and Alena Zoe.

First thing we did was swap presents.

Zoe knitted me a beauuuutiful "scarf"...

And Zoe, being the youngest Kwan, was showered with millions of gifts from her millions of uncles, aunties, and cousins.

From us she received...

Jenga...?

And...

An aero-bed?

Little Zoe was a bit confused at first...

but as she kept opening...

she found a bag.

And inside the bag she found NEMO!

....................

After gifting, it was time for delicious dinner.

There were shrimps and lamb chops and bacon-wrapped scallops and turkeys and yams and mmmmm it was delicious.

And then we topped that off with two cakes from Pastiche - seriously the greatest dessert place in the whole wide world.

I quickly slipped into a food coma and Zoe stacked her animals on me.

Mischievous mischievous demon-child...

I woke up and put her in her place.

Merry Xmas!

Xmas 2008: Part 1 - China Food

Felix and Kathryn and Sandra and her friend Christy were all in Providence/Boston for Christmas.

We met up for Christmas lunch at Chef Chang's in Boston.

Copious amounts of dumpy dump dumprings and peking duck (not pictured) were eaten.

Kathryn got a funny fortune.

Sandra got a better one.

Hopefully this is the end to a somewhat awful year and next year will be so much better.

Now we're off to Uncle Dick and Auntie Alice's for more face-stuffing.
