Aqua / More HK arrivals

The view of Central Hong Kong at night is one of the most beautiful things you could ever witness.

And on New Years...with millions of fireworks exploding everywhere...it's just breathtaking.

We had dinner at Aqua on Tuesday night. The restaurant offers a stunning penthouse view of Hong Kong harbor. Better than at Felix.

Friends Jason and Jennifer and Mike had all just arrived from Taiwan and Singapore.

Dinner was good.

The food is tasty. But not epic.

But it is all worth it for the view.

Even though for us it was raining and super foggy.

Afterwards we descended on LKF where pre-New Years celebrations were in full-effect.

Eugene's Yale friends had all just arrived as well.

We found a random College Party at Volar.

It was packed with Asians.

And was a suuuuper fun dance party.

Someone asked me if Tim and I were brothers, and I said, "no.......but THANK YOU!!!!"

That was reason enough to celebrate.

A LOT.

All the groups of friends came together seamlessly.

It's just easy when everyone is so nice and fun and pretty!

People were semi-wastedface.

I told Tim to "look as ugly as possible" for a picture and this is the best he could do...

We'll work on it....

.......

Happily, noone met the same fate as this rando girl...

We've amassed quite the entourage for the big New Year's celebration!

This is so rad.

Mashup of the year's biggest hits.

Thanks Smileyjohn!

John Tesh - Roundball Rock

Annie posted this on her blog the other day and I had to repost because it was so cool.

My dad used to force me to listen to Yanni and John Tesh, which is partially to blame for my weird/awful taste in music.

I love composers and theme songs from the Olympics and all that stuff. One of my favorites is "Summon the Heroes" from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Anyway, despite what you may this kind of music, you should know NBC's NBA theme song "Roundball Rock" and I think this video of John telling how he came up with it and then performing it is undeniably awesome:

I love creative people.

Heeeere we gooooo...

Everyone has slowly been trickling into HK over the past few days.

Last night Tim arrived. And I got over my jetlag and was finally able stay up past 7pm.

We had a low-key night out. Eugene secured a private room for us in LKF.

Suuuuuuper newyears funtimes coming up soon!

Zombie Snacks

Doug is really fond of referring to certain old people as "zombies".

I don't know why I never thought of it, but it's perfect. Some of them really ARE zombies.

They just stand there with this vacant saggy look and move at the speed of a blueberry muffin.

Now my grandma is not a zombie. She is a poised and regal little lady.

But her friends...eeesh.

ZOMBIELAND!

(That one on the far left in particular. I think her English name is Jenny and she is SO not a Jenny.)

I hung out with them for a day. We stayed home. They played mahjong. I watched Mad Men. We ate some snacks. But soon they were really hungry and needed to FEED.

So we descended into the world.

And ended up at a restaurant....that serves.....goose.

I'm all about eatin' chickens and cows and furry little rabbits...

But I can't eat the nice ladybird that writes the nursery rhymes that make children happy.

Poor Mrs. Goose!

The zombies though, they love it.

They NEED it.

Beware of Jenny when she's hungry!!!!

Growl.

(shudder)

My grandma is so pretty!

Pretty Sweaters!

I'm super jet-lagged right now.

I was supposed to meet up with a bunch of high school friends last night so I had dinner then took a power nap from 8pm-10pm. I set my alarm for 10 and when I woke up I texted Clarence to find out where everyone was at. While I was waiting for a response though I fell back asleep and there was no more alarm to wake me up.

I woke up at 4am to a bunch of missed calls and texts wondering if I was dead.

Oops.

..............

But yay, time to catch up on forgotten blogs. I was so preoccupied with packing up the apartment and getting ready for HK that I forgot to post about the Pretty Sweater "Party".

Believe it or not I've never been to an Ugly Sweater Party, so I decided to throw my own. However, I think buying an ugly sweater that you're only going to wear once is silly. As such, I wanted to have a party featuring Non-Ugly sweaters that would be usable all season long.

Isn't that thoughtful? Yay.

It was a smaller group than usual but we got to hang out and play several games of Asshole and Kings.

And then we hit the barz.

By the way, Annie has a fabulous new blog and you should check it out:

Smileyjohn and I ate cheesesteaks.

While Jesse passed out gripping his face.

I love the holidays!
