Surprise!

I got a fortune cookie after an epic meatball dinner the other night at Jones Cafe.

And guess who showed up the next day?

Smershy!

She's done with her international travels for now and has been busy building homes in New Orleans and collecting all kinds of good karma.

I think our trip down there will be taking place the weekend of October 16th. Yesssssss...

GOSSIP GIRL

I attempted to watch the show when it first started, and for some reason was never really into it.

But after hearing from people ranging from Megoon to Amanda to Kathryn that this absolutely my show, and that they were stunned I wasn't watching it yet, I decided to give it another shot.

I bought the 1st Season DVDs last week and marathoned them over the past 4 days.

And they were right.

Undeniably trashy...but god, it is so addictive.

It reminds me a little bit of my high school. Or what I have always imagined was the magical mystery world of my high school that I was way too dork-outsider to be a part of.

The writing is often laughable. And I can see how someone could walk in on a viewing, watch 5 minutes, and quickly dismiss it.

But it is good.

Chace Crawford is dreamy.

Blake Lively is a force of nature.

Season 2 premieres on Monday!

Beverly's 80th Birthday

Laura's grandma Beverly turned 80 years old this weekend.

So she flew out from Austin and I joined her and her family down in Laguna Beach at the pristine little retirement community her grandparents live in called....are you ready for this?....LeisureWorld.

We ate and mingled and played some board games, including Reminscing: The Game For People Over 30 (but created in 1980).

Win against the olds we did not.

Last Meal

For an epic last meal, we went to Carmine's for their delicious meatballs.

Carmine's is so good. It is like Al Gelato of the East.

Anne hates it.

She is a fool.

And with that, I returned to Los Angeles.

Happyface/Sadface.

It has been the most wonderful summer.

New friends. New foods. New city.

I think I belong on the East Coast. It just feels right in my soul.

Gosh I will miss it so much.

..............................

Oh, and apparently Paul Rudd rolled into Carmine's just a few hours after us according to Gawker Stalker.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

In general, I don't really like Woody Allen movies.

I tried to watch Everyone Says I Love You and fell asleep.

I watched Mighty Aphrodite and found myself kind of annoyed.

And Match Point was ok, there was nice eye candy...but the man sitting next to me laughing a little too loud and repeatedly saying, "That's SO Woody!" kind of ruined the experience for me.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona looked like it had potential though.

First off, I love ScarJo.

Secondly, I love Penelope Cruz (despite the rumors that she is a crazy bitch).

Turns out the movie was fantastic. Best Woody Allen movie I've ever seen. Best movie he's probably ever made.

The three main actresses were smoking hot and each did an incredible job and they all played off each other (and Javier Bardem) with beautiful and hilarious chemistry.

It was complex and funny and sexy and overall just brilliantly written and acted.

Check out the trailer:

See the movie.

Philadelphia

Funny how there are all these cities that you never really think or hear about but they are there existing and growing and being pretty awesome.

Also Philly has the best morning-after food ever.

T-star's Super-Smartypants Sasian Wedding

So Kathryn, Mumi and I got to Philly to get ready for Tara's big day.

At first I tried on Mumi's skirt as a cape. It looked pretty sweet.

But ultimately I decided to go with something a little more traditional.

(I would later learn that most Sasian men apparently do not wear Sasian clothing to Sasian weddings.)

Kind of felt like I was the guy who didn't get the memo.
(See: Derelicte Party)

Kathryn showed up looking great and newly anorexified.

(Picture has not been altered)

We got ready quickly and headed to a neighboring bar to pregame.

Our excursion was foolish, however, because it caused us to miss out on the groom riding into the wedding ceremony on a horse.

Oops.

The wedding was held in a beautiful building at the College of Physicians.

It was a pretty big wedding.

Sasians. Brown people. Harvard Law people. I think the average IQ in the room was about 195.

The ceremony started with a procession of best friends and family members walking with lit starcandles.

Then Tara walked in looking radiant.

The bride and groom took their seats and the one-hour ceremony began.

The priest spent a lot of time mumbling and making the couple add fuel to a little fire that was burning in front of them.

Even T-star seemed to zone out every once in a while.

Overall though they were super-smileyfaced and it was beautiful.

At one point, the priest abruptly got up and knocked their heads together.

It made a hollow coconut-y sound that made everyone laugh.

Finally, Chiraag and Tara exited the room to great applause and flying flower petals.

All the Sasian clothing was so beautiful.

But my favorite part of any wedding is the cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

We got to say hi to Tara right before she headed out for a clothing change.

Dancing commenced immediately (like, before dinner even) with an incredible live band.

We sat down for a family-style dinner...

Each table was named after one of the couple's favorite books.

Our table was Salman Rushdie's "Haroun and the Seven Seas".

(My friends is wicked smaht.)

Yum.

Then...more dancing.

The band played one epic song after the next. We danced until the very end.

It was a giant room full of drunken, dancing, smartpeople.

Kathryn had a lot to drink.

And then I made friends with a body-pillow.

Congratulations T-star!
